Notes
Since Summer 2011 Metamono have, once in a while, taken the wonderful and arcane world that is the “vintage emporium” Bambino in London’s Crystal Palace and transformed it into a bizarre and unusual performance space. The Metamono instrumentarium sits comfortably amongst the bric-a-brac and hidden treasure, as does the makeshift bar cum merchandising stand, even the operatives themselves appear clothed in the stock. These sold-out nights have become legendary in the locale and never fail to produce their own magic: “The strangeness at a Metamono gig, initiated by their methods, their eccentricity, their spontaneity, is infectious, and abetted by cheap bar prices, creates all kinds of mutations and deviations from the usual neural pathways and behaviour patterns. “One time, a couple of kids started free-running up the side of a building,” recalls Jono. “It affects the audience. It sets people a little freer.” Liberation technology, indeed.” David Stubbs, The QuietusThe performances and recordings would not have been possible without the sterling efforts and faith of the following: Andy Bambino, Michael Shepherd and the aHulaBula Sound System, Matt Atkinson, Kate Shipp, Sandra Podmore, Tremayne Latham, Andy Salt and George Holt.
A note on the recordings. Eyebrows have been raised about the inclusion of recordings made with a microphone here - seemingly contravening the line "- will never use a microphone" in the Metamono Manifesto. The recordings were made originally as archive material, the microphone being necessary to capture the sound of the events in the room. This was not involved with the composition or performance of the music in any way. In the performances themselves the manifesto was rigorously adhered to: for example Tremayne Latham uses a tin acoustic cox's megaphone and pure lung power for his rendition of the manifesto. The 23/6/12 event was recorded by Michael Shepherd.
