Discussion about Joe Turner And His Blues Kings - Shake, Rattle And Roll

It was only about twelve years ago I heard Joe Turner's 'Shake, Rattle and Roll' and I was astounded to hear this verse: 'When you wear those dresses the sun comes shinin' through, When you wear those dresses the sun comes shinin' through I can't believe my eyes all that mess belongs to you...'This verse was forever excised from any version I ever heard of this song. The Bill Haley version suggests nothing but a big dance party. The Presley version is a bit more true to the original. I'm surprised RCA left the verse about 'I've been over the hills and way down underneath' on the Elvis record. Did they really think Elvis was talking about mountains and valleys?Elvis would go on to castrate himself in bad movie after bad movie. That's why it's nice to hear Joe Turner in sexual frustration moan: 'I believe to my soul you're the devil in nylon hose'. And even the white kids were hip back then....they didn't want to hear Pat Boone's take on 'Tutti Frutti'.The b-side is a slow piano blues written by Joe Turner's wife.
